Liaison Officials’ Meeting on the 16th CABIS in Beijing
Liaison Officials’ Meeting on the 16th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) was held in Beijing. Vice Chairman Zhang Shenfeng of CCPIT and vice Governor Yang Jinbai of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Representatives from the Ministry of Commerce of China, Embassies and Consulates of 10 ASEAN member countries in China, National Chambers of Commerce and Industry and ACC attended the conference. At the meeting, the proposal on activities of the CABIS was briefed and opinions of relevant representatives of ASEAN countries were solicited. Before the meeting, Chairman Gao Yan of CCPIT met with vice Governor Yang and his delegation.
As Vice Chairman Zhang pointed out, President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, announcing that China will take a series of important measures for reform and opening up. We should seize the opportunity and encourage more enterprises to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative through the CABIS to create more business opportunities. Vice Chairman Zhang put forward three proposals for the success of the 16th CABIS. First, organize events well in the existing framework. Second, further intensify the participation of ASEAN countries; Third, provide better services for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Vice Governor Yang emphasized that being the leading forefront and important window of China-ASEAN cooperation, Guangxi has achieved rapid development and closer cooperation in trade and investment through the CABIS and regional cooperation. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the first year that upgraded version of the Agreement of China-ASEAN Free Trade Zone comes into force. Therefore, it is of great significance to hold the 16th CABIS. Vice Governor Yang made three proposals on making full use of the CABIS to deepen China-ASEAN cooperation. First, work together to make the 16th CABIS a success. Second, strengthen cooperation and make joint efforts to upgrade the summit. Third, boost the development of China and ASEAN with concerted efforts.
Secretary General Li Changguan of the CABIS briefed the proposal on activities of the 16th summit. With the theme of “Building Belt & Road Routes, Realizing Our Vision for A Community with Shared Future”, a new mode of conference has been adopted, which is to combine the 16th CABIS with relevant forums throughout the year to continuously improve the level of service for enterprises, projects and industries. 8 important activities will be held in CABIS, including the Opening Ceremony, Round-table Dialogue between State Leader of Indonesia and CEOs from China, China-ASEAN Business Leaders Forum, Innovation & Opening-up: Forum on the New Impetus of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Belt and Road Forum of Young Entrepreneurs, TV Forum: Dialogue with Unicorn Enterprises, China-ASEAN Fruit Industry Development Forum and the China-ASEAN Night. In addition, there will be 9 thematic forums in the framework of the summit, including the 2019 China-Japan-ROK Health Industry Forum, Development Forum on Integration with China’s Eastern Provinces, the second “Belt and Road” New Economy Forms Development Forum, China-ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Summit, 2019 Maritime Silkroad Fashion Culture Week, Symposium on China-ASEAN Commercial Legal Cooperation, New Materials Development Forum, 2019 China (Guangxi) International Cooperation Summit Forum on Forest Health & Wellness Industry and New Energy Automobile Development Forum.
The representatives fully discussed and agreed on the arrangements of the summit by CABIS Secretariat and exchanged views on the preparation. They will maintain communication and close cooperation with CABIS Secretariat, promote the participation of national leaders, business leaders and representatives of entrepreneurs in the 16th summit, and continue to deepen bilateral economic and trade cooperation and exchanges through mechanism and platform of CABIS. The participants believe that events of the summit will surely be a great success with the close communication and joint efforts of all parties.
In the past 15 years, 50 leaders of China and ASEAN countries, more than 1500 senior government officials, 50,000 senior executives, experts and scholars from the world’s top 500 enterprises, China’s top 500 enterprises and ASEAN countries have attended the opening ceremony of CABIS. More than 200 economic and trade events have been held, promoting various cooperation projects amounted to more than $48 billion. CABIS has become an important channel for China and ASEAN to promote high-level dialogues among governments, boost business cooperation between enterprises and strengthen people-to-people exchanges. In April 2017, in President Xi’s visit to Guangxi, he stated that the China-ASEAN EXPO and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit have become “a shining name card of Guangxi and an important open platform for China-ASEAN."
