On August 10, 2012, press conference on the 9th China –ASEAN Expo and the 9th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) was convened in Beijing. In an effort to promote high-level dialogue and trade and economic cooperation between China and ASEAN, Mr. Yu Ping, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), introduced the preparation work on the 9th CABIS, which attracted 47 domestic and overseas media to the press conference. Here is the speech by Mr. Yu Ping at the press conference.
Our friends from the media,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good Morning.
First of all, on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, I would like to welcome you all to this press conference here today. Now please allow me to brief you on the 9th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.
I. General intent of the 9th CABIS
In an effort to implement effectively the proposal on bringing the China-ASEAN cooperation to a new high, which was made by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in his speech to the Opening Ceremony of the 8th CABIS, the 9th CABIS will continue to uphold its role as an important mechanism and platform to promote high-level dialogue and trade and economic cooperation between China and ASEAN by working together with related government agencies and business community for the preparation and organization of the 9th CABIS so as to bring new impetus to the enhancement of China-ASEAN trade and economic cooperation.
II. Highlights of the 9th CABIS
1. The theme of the 9th CABIS will be “Strengthening Connectivity for Win-win Cooperation.” To enhance the regional connectivity is considered as one of the priorities in furthering China-ASEAN cooperation, which was commonly voiced by state leaders from both China and ASEAN at the 8th CABIS. The 9th CABIS will focus on the dialogue on how to further strengthen regional connectivity and a series of events will be taken under this theme so as to promote the multi-dimensional cooperation between China and ASEAN in the various sectors.
2. The 9th CABIS will continue to uphold high political and diplomatic profile and put emphasis on practical cooperation. State leaders from China and ASEAN will be invited to the Opening Ceremony of the 9th CABIS and deliver their speeches. State leader from Myanmar, leaders from Ministry of Commerce of China and Guangxi People's Government will be invited to the Round-table Dialogue between State Leader of Myanmar and CEOs from China, which is part of the CABIS efforts to promote high-level dialogue and government-business communication between China and ASEAN.
3. The 9th CABIS will witness the Opening Ceremony of the China-ASEAN Plaza. The construction of the China-ASEAN Plaza has been in accordance with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's proposal at the 8th CABIS, which stated that we will build the China-ASEAN Plaza in Nanning, an exhibition and marketing platform and logistic base for products from both sides. After one year of construction, the China-ASEAN Plaza is on a way to completion and ready for the Opening Ceremony during the 9th CABIS.
4. The 2012 China-ASEAN Finance Expo will be convened for the 1st time this year in order to promote the financial cooperation between China and ASEAN and further improve financial services for the development of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. Representatives of financial institutions and enterprises of banking, securities, funds and insurance from China and ASEAN will participate in it.
5. As a part of the 9th CABIS, the 3rd China-ASEAN Mining Cooperation Forum and Exhibition was successfully held from May 10 to 13 this year in Nanning, during which new consensus were reached and new practical cooperative achievements were made. The projects and trade contracts signed during the forum reached 13.6 Billion RMB. The Forum again successfully further promoted the multi-level exchange and cooperation in the mining sector in the region.
6. The 9th CABIS will continue to invite business representatives from China and ASEAN for face-to-face gatherings. The successful convening of the China-ASEAN Business Leaders Forum in the previous two years was highly appraised by all the participants. We will continue to organize the China-ASEAN Business Leaders Forum and the Business Breakfast during the 9th CABIS, where government and business representatives from the region will be able to engage in free-style discussion.
In order to promote cultural exchanges in the region, painters, calligraphers and people from the art circle in and outside the region will be invited to the International Art Exhibition.
Preparations for the 9th CABIS have been undertaken smoothly as scheduled, and the organizing work for its events are well under way. We firmly believe that the 9th CABIS will be a full success with the active participation and strong support from all circles in China and ASEAN.
Friends from the media, ladies and gentlemen,
Ever since the 1st CABIS in 2004, we have been receiving close attention and great support as well as valuable assistance from the media. I would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude again to the contribution made by the media to the continuous success of all the CABIS sessions and look forward to having more attention and support from you all.
Thank you.
