Malaysia's e-commerce transaction income surges 10.4 pct in Q1
Malaysia's e-commerce income surged 10.4 percent year-on-year to 291.7 billion ringgit (62.6 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter of 2023,official data showed on Thursday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that this growth was primarily driven by manufacturing and services sectors.
As for 2022,the e-commerce income rose 6 percent year-on-year to 1.1 trillion ringgit.
According to DOSM,the growth can be attributed to the Malaysian government's initiatives aimed at establishing a regional e-commerce gateway, investing in e-commerce startups, promoting innovation through a regulatory sandbox, and enhancing communication and broadband facilities.
It said that these efforts have yielded substantial economic benefits, including increased adoption of digital technology and overall improved performance.
