Malaysia digitizes certificates to facilitate investment

The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) announced on Monday that it has digitized three key certificates in the manufacturing sector to streamline related procedures in efforts to improve the investment environment in the Southeast Asian country.
 

Under the move, the manufacturing license, permit under the Petroleum Development Act (PDA permit certificate) and the pioneer status certificate, will be made available online, MIDA said in a statement.
 

Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the digitization of manufacturing certificates is a significant step towards modernizing, rethinking and re-engineering public services.
 

The move offers investors a more inclusive, seamless and personalized service, which is very much aligned with one of the objectives of the country's New Industrial Master Plan 2030, he said.
 

"Through this digitization initiative, the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), through MIDA, aims to improve accountability, transparency and cybersecurity, all of which will further reinforce Malaysia's positioning as a digital hub for the region," said the minister.
 

MIDA's chief executive officer, Arham Abdul Rahman said the move will shorten processing time and improve client charter commitment to investors while completing digital transformation goals in supporting the industry's current and future needs.
 

"It will allow MIDA to respond to investors' needs more effectively," he said.
